Seoul Station to Incheon Airport: Express in 43 Minutes vs. All-Stop Train at 5,350 Won

Taking the Airport Railroad Express (AREX) from Seoul Station to Incheon Airport, the nonstop express train takes 43 minutes to Terminal 1 and 51 minutes to Terminal 2, while the all-stop train charges a distance-based fare of 5,350 won for adults to Terminal 2, though its official travel time is not listed.

Two types of trains run on the AREX line. The express train runs directly between Seoul Station and Incheon Airport without stopping, while the all-stop train, a commuter-style service, stops at all 14 stations along the line, resulting in different travel times and fare structures. For foreign travelers, the choice often comes down to saving time versus saving money, making it worth understanding the differences before departure.

Express train: travel time is clear

The official site states the express train takes 43 minutes from Seoul Station to Incheon Airport Terminal 1 and 51 minutes to Terminal 2, a distance of 63 kilometers. With no intermediate stops, it is a reliable option for travelers for whom time matters most.

Express fare varies across pages

The fare is where things get murky. One page on the official site lists 9,500 won for adults and 7,500 won for children, seniors, people with disabilities and national merit recipients, while another page lists 9,000 won for adults and 7,000 won for children, with a separate 500-won deposit charged when issuing the ticket. A train introduction page also lists 13,000 won for adults, along with “standard fares” of 18,100 won for Seoul to Terminal 1 and 18,700 won for Seoul to Terminal 2, suggesting the fare may differ by timing or conditions. Travelers should confirm the current exact fare through the official website or customer service before departure.

All-stop train: fare is clear, time is not

The all-stop train charges fares based on distance, with the fare from Seoul Station to Incheon Airport Terminal 2 set at 5,350 won for adults using a prepaid or postpaid transit card. Buying a single-use transit card adds 100 won. Children receive a 50 percent discount and teenagers a 20 percent discount off the adult fare, while those aged 65 and older ride free upon showing identification. However, the exact travel time for the all-stop train could not be confirmed in official materials; travel blogs suggest roughly around an hour, but this remains unofficial information.

Blog comparisons: treat as reference only

Travel blogs report that the express train costs roughly twice as much as the all-stop train while saving about 15 to 16 minutes, but the fare figures themselves differ from blog to blog, so this should be treated as unofficial information requiring confirmation.

AREX customer service can be reached at 1599-7788.

Travelers prioritizing speed may prefer the express train and those prioritizing cost the all-stop train, but the exact express fare should be reconfirmed through official channels before departure.
