Fried chicken to your hotel room, no Korean phone number required

Baemin, Korea's delivery app, works with a foreign phone number and card — the real challenge is entering the address correctly.

Fried chicken to your hotel room, no Korean phone number required

After check-in, once the bags are down, hunger sets in. Outside it is already dark, and the nearby restaurants are either closed or simply unfamiliar. You pick up your phone and search for a delivery app, but one question stops you before you even open it: can this work without a Korean phone number?

A hotel room, a suitcase half-unpacked on the bed, a phone charging at forty percent. Roaming data works, but there is no Korean SIM inside. You could call the front desk, but the night staff is busy, and explaining a delivery app in English is its own small ordeal. So you end up scrolling the app store alone.

The problem splits into two parts. First, whether signup is even possible. Second, whether payment and address entry actually work in practice. Korean delivery apps rely on a road-name address system paired with building entry codes, and if a foreign visitor enters the address imprecisely, the rider can end up circling the building.

Baemin has already opened this door fairly wide. You can register using a foreign phone number verified by SMS, and switching the in-app language to English, Chinese, or Japanese carries through search, checkout, and order tracking. Payment accepts foreign-issued credit cards, WeChat Pay, Alipay+, and Apple Pay linked to an overseas card. This works because the app does not tie authentication and payment exclusively to domestic telecom and card networks — it keeps international verification and payment gateways open alongside them. Seoul's partnership with Baemin in August 2026 for its “K-Delivery Culture” campaign existed specifically to spread the word about this to visitors.

In practice, the order of steps matters.

  1. After installing the app, switch the language to English, Chinese, or Japanese first.
  2. Register using SMS verification with your foreign phone number.
  3. Register a foreign card, WeChat Pay, Alipay+, or Apple Pay as your payment method. Approval can be declined depending on your card issuer's policy, so test with a small order first.
  4. For the delivery address, specify the building by its road-name address first, then enter the floor and unit number precisely.
  5. In the request field, leave the building's entrance door code or a nickname (such as the hotel name). That one line saves the rider real time.

Using the app itself turns out not to be the hard part. The real gate is not the language on the screen, but whether the rider standing outside the building can find your exact floor.
