Gyeongju served as the capital of the Silla Kingdom for roughly a thousand years, and the city is dotted with royal tombs, temples, and archaeological sites as a result.
What to see
Bulguksa Temple and the Seokguram Grotto are UNESCO World Heritage Sites just outside the city center, while Tumuli Park's grass-covered royal burial mounds sit right within the downtown area.
Getting there
The KTX high-speed train stops at Singyeongju Station, roughly two hours from Seoul and about half an hour from Busan or Ulsan, making Gyeongju a popular day trip from either city.
